This book, inclusive of 11 chapters, discusses current knowledge on the human microbial flora and microbiome, with emphasis given to the human intestinal microbiota. Initial chapters are devoted to the discussion of the specific microbial flora of the digestive tract, lungs, urogenital tract and skin, both during healthy and diseased states. The latter chapters are devoted specifically to the human intestinal microbiota, which include discussions on in vitro and in vivo models, sequencing methods applications, and metabolic profiling studies.
