Summary: | This book has 20 chapters divided into 5 sections providing information on the background and history of pest risk analysis and key components of pest risk analysis and their applications in regulatory plant protection. The use of qualitative and quantitative methods, economic analysis and geographical information systems to analyse risk, the theory and application of pest risk management, the role and importance of effective risk communication and how it relates to pest risk management and the role of uncertainty in pest risk analysis are highlighted. Information on specialized topics within pest risk analysis, including risk analysis for beneficial organisms and weeds as well as the role of dispute settlement and precaution in the application of pest risk analysis are presented. A short review of how other organisms, namely invasive alien species and living modified organisms, are addressed through pest risk analysis within the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC)/sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) framework is also provided. |
